Mobilizing Safer Communities

Moving Forward Together on Mobility," in partnership with the Edmonton Public School Division, aims to enhance traffic safety within school zones by promoting active transportation among students. The initiative collaborates closely with schools through the School Travel Planning Process, which includes gathering data on travel behaviours, identifying safety concerns, and developing customized action plans. These tailored plans address the unique challenges of each school, ensuring practical and sustainable solutions. Each participating school will receive the necessary resources and tools needed to effectively improve safety within their school zone.

Ever Active Schools provides year-long, customized support to help schools foster a culture of active travel within their communities. By partnering with schools to implement Green Communities Canada's School Travel Planning process, the program empowers students to become advocates for active transportation through an in-school residency. During this residency, students actively participate in data collection, event planning, and other initiatives. Additionally, Ever Active Schools collaborates with school leadership to host community walkabouts, identifying challenges and opportunities for enhancing active travel. Each school then develops a tailored action plan to improve safety and promote active transportation. The program also explores how active school travel can contribute to air quality improvements through engagement with community partners such as Inside Education and Alberta Capital Airshed.
