Summer Send Off – Thank You Teachers!

Thank you in green centred on a white background

Farewell, 2020/2021 school year. It’s been a time.
We’re sure you have BIG summer plans to get to–hello, sleeping in, enjoying the sunshine and avoiding screens–but before you go, we’ve got a few quick things for you. We’ll keep it short and sweet so you can go find a patio.

First and foremost… THANK YOU.

The end of the school year is often a time that teachers are often thanked, sometimes with gifts or cards (or, historically, with hugs). We cannot let the end of this most unusual and challenging school year pass without thanking teachers for the many ways they have been a key force in our collective response to the challenges of Covid-19. We have collected just a sample of thank you’s from students who wanted to share their appreciation for their teachers. We hope witnessing these expressions of gratitude will uplift you today. Thank you, thank you for all of your concern, creativity, and hard work during this past school year!

Gratitude is the act of expressing appreciation to someone for what they have offered you. Expressing gratitude is beneficial to both parties of a relationship; both giver and receiver are positively impacted by the exchange of a meaningful thank you. Researchers have found powerful benefits to both our physical and psychological wellbeing with the practice of gratitude. Practicing gratitude may help us get a better night’s sleep, improve our cardiovascular health, and decrease our aches and pains. When we notice what others offer to us, we are happier and more optimistic. Looking for ways to express gratitude may seem like a small gesture, but the ripple effects of gratitude are far-reaching. You can learn more about the many benefits of gratitude from Dr. Kerry Howells, a researcher who has spent her career studying the transformative role this habit and intention can play in education on a recent podcast by the Teacher Fan Club.
