Alberta Curriculum

This session is designed to support teachers to increase their confidence and competence to implement the Alberta Physical Education and Wellness curriculum. The content will be grounded in best practice in pedagogy, and will cover the similarities and differences from previous curricula, provide tips on planning, implementation and assessment, and include a reference resource for each organizing idea.

Physical Activity

Physical activity offers many benefits above and beyond physical health. This workshop will offer practical tips on how to incorporate physical activity into any subject area. Join us in learning how to re-energize your students, break up sedentary time, and increase physical activity across the school community.

Using one of Ever Active Schools newest resources Outdoor Learning Quickdraw, this session will support Participants with taking their classroom outside in engaging and meaningful ways. Explore the resources 4 components: Physical Literacy, Outdoor Skills, Teamwork and Environmental Action through activities and hands-on learning!

Equity and Inclusion

In this session, we will consider equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) through the lens of comprehensive school health, focusing on meaningful partnerships, teaching and learning, school environments and policymaking. Participants will engage in activities to deepen their EDI knowledge and understanding, and take away practical tools for creating welcoming and inclusive environments for all students and school community members.

Well-being

Wellness is an integral part of a school community: healthy students are better learners. As an educator, your wellness is central to maintaining that of the classroom and the school as a whole. Join us to understand the dimensions of wellness, areas of growth within your personal and workplace wellness, and actionable steps to create a community of wellness within your school. Participants will walk away with the knowledge to serve them both personally and professionally.

The development of social and emotional skills is foundational to student success in school, work and life. This learning opportunity explores the five competencies of social and emotional learning and how these skills help to support students with academic outcomes and positive relationships. The session offers practical classroom activities to specifically address the teaching and learning of these competencies.

A strong relationship exists between the development of executive functioning skills and self-regulation. When children and youth have the opportunity to develop the skills needed for self-regulation, they are better suited to make healthy choices that affect them and their classmates. This workshop explores how classrooms and community programs are the optimal settings to promote these skills through fun, creative and original activities.

Student leadership and voice is an essential part of a healthy school community.  In this session explore ways that leadership opportunities can be embedded in school culture and encouraged for all students, not just the ones who are already demonstrating strong leadership qualities. Let’s move beyond our assumptions of “what makes a good leader” and create space for all students to show their unique strengths! Learn from a variety of student leadership strategies and success stories from schools across the province, and find opportunities to amplify student voices in your school community.

Beyond a job, teaching is a calling. These half-day or full-day sessions provide a snapshot of well-being science that invites educators to cultivate a practice of well-being within that calling. Moving beyond self-care strategies and a focus on job-related stress, we will discuss both individual and collective opportunities to help shift the tide from burning out to burning in. This can be held on or offsite.

We are happy to customize professional learning length and content to suit your needs. Examples of custom workshops we have delivered are Eliminate Elimination Games, Play at School and Beyond, and Activity Permissive Learning Environments. Workshops can be delivered in-person or virtually. In-person workshop bookings may include additional travel costs.
