RUN, WALK AND ROLL WITH THE AMA YOUTH RUN CLUB
“It got me running too and connected to the kids on a different level.” – A 2019/2020 Run Club coach
The Alberta Medical Association (AMA) Youth Run Club has been supporting Alberta students with free, fun and flexible programming for 7 years, and while clubs may look a little different this year, all the great benefits coaches and runners have come to expect are still in place!
New this year, we’re offering the AMA Youth Run Club for schools AND for individuals to participate virtually! We piloted this option during the COVID-19 shutdowns to keep runners going through the school year and received strong feedback.
- “I loved being able to keep teenage girls active–and now, being able to implement and run “together” virtually.”
- “It kept our whole family active during a very difficult time! Thank you, it was fantastic!”
More new supports in place for the AMA Youth Run Club this year include a “Return to Learn” infographic with ideas to re-think tag and tips for staying active in a COVID reality; virtual supports for use in school or at home including a tracking sheet, at-home guide, fun run guide, printable running bibs and more; a province-wide virtual fun run event from October 5-9; and a new mobile friendly site!
Through the new mobile site, users can set goals and track their progress, as well as access 13 pre-made practice plans. Access to the mobile site is available to all registered clubs!
What are you waiting for? Register for the AMA Youth Run Club today! Did we mention it’s free, fun and flexible?! If you’re still not convinced, check out what some AMA Youth Run Club coaches have to say. (By the way, 100% of coaches reported that they themselves benefited from the run club, too.)
“The provided activities and suggestions are easy to implement; they are flexible (choice is involved), and easy to work into other pre-existing activities.”
“I find the entire Run Club easy and well organized. I love the activity ideas and other information. I’m impressed by this organization every year.”
“Engaging students in structured physical activity before classes begin has helped those students focus better in class.”
“Having our students so excited to participate in running is what keeps us going. They all say that it is fun.”
