Ever Active Schools Announces Leadership Transition
Ever Active Schools announces that Executive Director Brian Torrance will be stepping down from his role at the end of September 2025.
Brian has been an integral part of Ever Active Schools for more than 15 years, bringing genuine care, vision, and dedication to the health and well-being of school communities across Alberta and Canada. When he joined the organization in June 2010, Ever Active Schools was a small but passionate team of five. Today, thanks to Brian’s leadership, the organization has grown into a vibrant and impactful team of more than 25 staff members.
Throughout his tenure, Brian built strong partnerships that advanced school community well-being and elevated Ever Active Schools’ role as a leader in laying the foundation for wellness within education systems. His collaborative approach created sustainable change and opportunities that will continue to shape schools and communities for years to come.
Reflecting on his time with Ever Active Schools, Brian shared:
“I have been so fortunate to work with an amazing group of people and I am grateful for the relationships, laughs, our growth, and the immense support for me personally and for Ever Active. I deeply value the incredible leadership we have within the charity, the partnerships we have made and I will continue to watch in awe of the impactful work Ever Active does in communities across Canada”
The Ever Active Schools community is proud and excited to see Brian take on his next leadership role with ParticipACTION, where he will continue to champion an active and healthy Canada. We know our paths will cross again in pursuit of this shared vision.
Board Chair Rebecca Smillie expressed her gratitude, noting:
“We thank Brian for his commitment and care for Ever Active over the last 15 years. Our growth into a national charity, our work alongside the Indigenous Youth Mentorship Program, and the many partnerships we have engaged in are legacy elements of his leadership. We know Brian will have great success at ParticipACTION.”
As part of this transition, Ever Active Schools is pleased to announce that Kerri Murray will step into the role of Executive Director. Kerri has been with Ever Active Schools for more than a decade, providing leadership across multiple areas of the organization.
Board Chair Rebecca Smillie added:
“With a background in Health Promotion, a career in supporting healthy environments and extensive leadership across strategic areas of the organization, we are thrilled to have Kerri step into the Executive Director role. We look forward to working with her as she continues to build the charity and advance the well-being of students and staff across Alberta and beyond”.

Thank you, Brian. Your leadership and guidance over the last 15 years have left their mark on Ever Active. You are leaving a great legacy to build on, and an empowered team to carry on through this transition and to write the next chapter.
