Bids for Bright Futures – Charity for Healthy Futures

Did you know? We’re a registered charity!

Ever Active Schools has served to positively impact the health and well-being of children and youth in schools and communities since our pilot efforts in 1999, under the support and stewardship of the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and the Health and Physical Education Council (HPEC). But in 2020, and with the ATA and HPEC cheering us on, we stepped out on our own as a registered national charity. While we continue to serve Alberta schools, our work has expanded to serve more children and youth in schools and communities where needs arise.

Our work is upstream, focused on positively impacting the health and well-being of children and youth in order that kids can be safe, happy and thrive. As an organization, we recognize that kids spend a huge bulk of their time at school and also in important third spaces like out-of-school programs, playgrounds and community centers. We view schools and third spaces as the best places to positively impact health and well-being.

If you know us, you know that we facilitate our work through direct programming to children and youth, mentorship of school and community leaders, the development of supportive resources, and through meaningful events that foster learning and connection.

Bidding to Create Bright Futures

In May 2025, we hosted Bids for Bright Futures in Edmonton, a community-connecting and fundraising event in support of our work. Our Board of Directors stepped up to host 70 energetic and engaged Edmontonians, who helped the charity to raise over $14,000. We also collectively cheered on the Oilers to an OT win in the second round of the playoffs! The generosity, gift of time, support, friendship and love for the Oilers was most evident and appreciated! Most importantly, we set a platform to bring awareness to the work of the charity and raise funds for healthy kids in healthy communities.

Fundraising events are about raising funds to be sure, but perhaps even greater than that, it’s about pulling people together to engage in a cause that matters to us all. In our case, it’s to ensure we are providing access and opportunity for children and youth to experience wellness and thrive in their schools and communities. The reality is that there are too many barriers to the positive programs that build protective factors in youth. Through direct programming and partnerships, we aim to open more doors and support the “good things” (physical activity, mental health, connection, sport, joy, etc) for children and youth.

Shaping Bright Futures

Ever Active Schools believes that schools and communities are not just places for learning — they’re also powerful settings for wellness. They level the playing field as not every child starts with the same resources, and schools give every child the opportunity. There are so many intersections and moments in a young person’s life that can be enhanced through positive programs, so we charge on with the ongoing conversations, partnerships and work that health promotion is valued, supported and invested in.
